The other day a friend of a friend of mine passed this advice on–to me!!!!!
1. Start late! Now I am a great believer in “the early bird gets the worm.” So at 7 am I’m up and at ‘em. That’s late for me, but you choose the time you are comfortable with.
2. Go slow! Once again, it is not my nature, so I have made some adjustments. I learn things a tad slower than I used to. I focus more directly on the subject matter to take advantage of the time I can concentrate. If I am tired I take a catnap-and come back to it. I reluctantly recognize my age. That’s why our team contains lots of younger technical folks and some experienced old hands – diversity counts. Plus we have well over 200 teammates we share, converse, kid around with and learn from.
3. Quit early ! A marvelous idea that I have been considering off and on for many years. Did it ever cross your mind? My wife reminds me of an old native american saying: ” It takes as long to get the job done as it takes to get the job done.” That must mean pace yourself to perform at your highest level and take time to smell the roses. A break now and then increases performance according to those folks that describe and prescribe these things.
Now please let me inject my ideas and suggestions for you to consider.
First of all, don’t be at the airport when your ship comes in!
Secondly, believe in yourself. For if you truly believe in yourself it shows in your actions, demeanor and attitude.
BE observant and open minded. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. Be grateful. Take action!
